An assortment of cars once owned by royalty, politician’s wives, and several celebrities will be auctioned at the NEC.
Silverstone Auctions is to hammer away what it’s calling the ‘Jewels in the Crown’ private collection’ as part of its Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show sale on 12-13 November.
First up, a 2001 Daimler V8 Her Majesty The Queen was driven in regularly is up for grabs. It has a specially adapted arm rest for the Royal handbag. A 2012 Bentley Mulsanne produced for her Jubilee tour is also available.
A 1994 Audi Cabriolet owned by princess Diana makes a reappearance at auction. In 2013, the Gomera pearl Audi went under the hammer at Blenheim palace, where it sold for £36,500 at a Coys auction. For this sale, it has an estimate of £50,000 – 60,000.
And to make a Royal flush, a 1980 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II formerly owned by princess Margaret is on the bill – as is a 2005 Rolls-Royce phantom, whose first owner was Sir Elton John.
Moving on to politics, a 1972 Fiat 500 bought by former prime Minister David Cameron as a surprise birthday present to his wife Samantha is in the sale. It has an estimate of £18,000-22,000.
Harry Whale, classic car specialist at Silverstone Auctions says: ‘We expect interest from around the globe.’
