The timewarp French fancy going under the hammer at Brooklands

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - This Week - Richard Gunn

It’s not new – but it might as well be. A French-registered 1985 Ford Escort 1.3 GL is one of the star vehicles at Historics’ 26 November auction at MercedesBenz World, adjacent to Brooklands in Weybridge, Surrey. But you might not want to drive it away, as it’s only done a paltry 193km, the equivalent of 120 miles.

The left-hand drive Escort was bought new in Cannes by a lady who was left in a wheelchair by an accident in another car shortly afterwards. Thus her Ford remained in storage until being acquired by a British enthusiast recently. A UK MoT revealed only three issues: no offside mirror or rear fog warning lamp due to its French specification and a faulty hazard warning light, all of which can be easily resolved. Finished in silver with a blue interior, the no-reserve Escort MkIII is highly likely to be the lowest mileage example in existence.

Historics' Nick Wiles says: ‘It’s a privilege to be offering such an exceptionally low-mileage car in utterly original condition.

‘We have already received significant interest and, with the weak pound, it’s sure to wake up collectors in Europe too, who will appreciate the value to be gained.’ www.historics.co.uk

The Escort has been barely used.

Yes, that’s right, just 193km from new.
