Landy theft gang jailed

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - This Week -

A criminal gang have been imprisoned after being caught driving a stolen Land Rover Defender during an attempt to steal another.

CCW has previously reported on a worrying trend of increased classic car thefts in Kent – and how Land Rovers are especially vulnerable. The iconic 4x4s are seen as highly valuable and are often all too easy to break into.

The criminals were sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court after each pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to steal.

William Bevan was jailed for two years and eight months. Jamie Ceballos was jailed for one year and eight months, and Martin Ward was jailed for one year and six months. Jonathan Delaney and Johnylee Eastwood were sentenced to 12 months, suspended for 18 months.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Iain Joyce, says: ‘This group deliberately targeted Land Rovers to sell them on.’

Kent Police is now urging Land Rover owners to park in well-lit areas, to ensure vehicles are secured and to remove all valuables from sight.
