Classic cars could save UK garages

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - THIS WEEK -

Working on and inspecting classics could save many traditional local garages, says the owner of a Wiltshire concern about to show its expertise with an open day.

Mermaid Vehicle Services will be demonstrating its own check scheme for cars exempt from the MoT as well as giving advice to classic owners at the event on 19 November.

‘I’m not against classics being exempt from the MoT but there must be an annual inspection covering major components,’ says proprietor Ashley Bye. He had been working on classic vehicles for 15 years before setting up Mermaid Vehicle Services in the village of Kington St Michael six years ago.

‘My first love is classics and I believe specialising in older cars could save many traditional local garages, some of which are struggling,’ he says. NL The open day takes place from 9am4pm. Mermaid Vehicle Services is near Junction 17 of the M4, SN15 5PX, Telephone 01249 750822.
