Lotus star of Channel 4 TV special sells for £121,500

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - This week -

A Lotus Elite owned by TV stars Ant Antstead and Philip Glenister sold for a world record price of £121,500 at Silvertone Auctions’ sale.

The glassfibre monocoque Elite was designed by Lotus’ Colin Chapman and sold to his friend, the legendary jazz musician Chris Barber, who raced it regularly. It will star in an hour-long special episode of For the

Love of Cars on Channel 4. Ant Antstead says: ‘You can’t get a better leveller of a car’s value than someone writing a cheque. The fact it sold for a world record really humbles me as a car builder and the new owner is going to race it too! ‘Phil (Glenister) and I actually bought the car together, then the show was commissioned. So it was a bit of a gamble for us and it’s paid off.’ Watch For the Love of Cars on Channel 4 on Sunday, 20 November at 8pm.
