Corgi Sunbeam surprise

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - This week - ❚

Diecast car maker Corgi had a double treat for showgoers – a pre-production Sunbeam Alpine model and the real thing next to it.

The immaculate Seacrest Green drop-top is the latest inspiration for its Vanguard collection based on specific real-life examples of cars.

This Sunbeam was chosen because of the fascinating story associated with it. The actual car was a preproduction model slated for the scrapyard before an entrepreneurial employee managed to convince bosses to let him have it. Rootes development engineer Bernard Unett took the car on – eventually winning the Freddie Dixon Trophy in it in 1964.

The model car goes on sale in March 2017. Pre-order now for £24.99.
