McClure lured by UK
American TV personality Jesse McClure is enjoying being in the UK so much that he is looking to stay here to take part in rally driving, he says. Jesse, who has appeared in Storage
Hunters in the US and the UK, and recently had his own English Treasure,
American Gold series on Quest, appeared at the NEC Classic Motor Show with his ‘co-star’, a black 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am he calls Lilly.
‘Driving around the streets of London in the Trans Am it dawned on me why the British drive the cars they do,’ says McClure. ‘It made me want to drive a Mini!’ The Trans Am is powered by a 6.6-litre V8 engine producing 197bhp.
The NEC Classic was a revelation to Jesse as most of the big automobile events in his native US tend to be allied to one marque. ‘Over here there are so many amazing, cool cars – something for everyone and that is reflected in this show,’ he says.
Jesse has also been won over by motorsport in the UK, having grown up with NASCAR oval racing in the US. ‘I’ve entered in my first rally race, in the North-West Stages at Blackpool in February, driving a Peugeot 205 GTI and one way or another I will make an impression!’ he adds.
