McClure lured by UK

Amer­i­can TV per­son­al­ity Jesse McClure is en­joy­ing being in the UK so much that he is look­ing to stay here to take part in rally driv­ing, he says. Jesse, who has ap­peared in Stor­age

Amer­i­can Gold se­ries on Quest, ap­peared at the NEC Classic Motor Show with his ‘co-star’, a black 1978 Pon­tiac Fire­bird Trans Am he calls Lilly.

‘Driv­ing around the streets of Lon­don in the Trans Am it dawned on me why the Bri­tish drive the cars they do,’ says McClure. ‘It made me want to drive a Mini!’ The Trans Am is pow­ered by a 6.6-litre V8 en­gine pro­duc­ing 197bhp.

The NEC Classic was a rev­e­la­tion to Jesse as most of the big au­to­mo­bile events in his na­tive US tend to be al­lied to one mar­que. ‘Over here there are so many amazing, cool cars – some­thing for everyone and that is re­flected in this show,’ he says.

Jesse has also been won over by mo­tor­sport in the UK, hav­ing grown up with NASCAR oval rac­ing in the US. ‘I’ve en­tered in my first rally race, in the North-West Stages at Black­pool in Fe­bru­ary, driv­ing a Peu­geot 205 GTI and one way or an­other I will make an im­pres­sion!’ he adds.
