Minuscule mileage Minis
Two Minis bought with the explicit intention of going into storage and being preserved for future generations have been found and are up for sale.
The cars will star in Mathewson’s first sale of 2017 on 11 February in Pickering, North Yorkshire. Both are F-registered 30th anniversary Limited Edition models.
One, with just 12 miles on the clock, has pearlescent Cherry Red paintwork and a manual gearbox. The other is a black automatic with 15 miles. Each carries a pre-sale estimate of £15,000.
Extraordinarily, the two 1989 Minis were bought by brother and sister Mick Evans and Gillian Tomlinson in 1989, are were supplied by the same dealer, Wrights of Sleaford, Lincolnshire.
The siblings were avid car collectors and have owned MGs, Fords, and Humbers. They wanted to keep the Minis in pristine condition because they thought that in 50 years’ time, people would be fascinated by them. Unfortunately Mick died earlier this year, and Gillian has decided to sell the pair.
Derek Mathewson of Mathewsons, says: ‘ The cars were purchased by the brother and sister and delivered direct to their barn. They’d not moved until now.’
All books and paperwork are present and they’re both still carrying various dealer stickers. The original Waxoyl is intact even on the exhausts.
‘Each one would certainly make a very easy and rewarding project and each is prime for turning into a superb show piece,’ says Mathewson.
