Turbo pioneer tributes
The man behind some of Sweden’s most famous engines has died, aged 82. Swede Per Gillbrand was one of his country’s most internationally recognised engineers. He worked with Volvo and Saab, and was instrumental in the implementation of the B18 engine in the Volvo P1800. He was also integral to Saab – as he found a way of controlling the boost pressure in the turbo engines used in the 99, 900 and 9000, making them faster and more efficient.
