WHAT CHRIS SHOULD DO TO HELP THE UK’S CLASSIC CAR OWNERS
Arrange a nationwide exemption for historic vehicles from city centre emissions zones. London’s set the precedent with its forthcoming Ultra Low Emissions Zone, but there’s no guarantee that other cities will follow suit. Have a chat with Business Secretary Sajid Javid about what else can be done to bring more apprentices into the classic restoration industry. There’s a shortage of youngsters learning the skills needed to keep Historic Vehicles on the roads. Come up with a UK solution for what to replace MoTs with, rather than closely following the European Roadworthiness Directive (particularly with Britain’s EU exit on the horizon). What works in Germany won’t necessarily work for classic owners over here. Work with the Home Office to help combat the growing problem of classic car theft – criminals are increasingly targeting older cars because their values have risen, and they’re far easier to steal than their modern counterparts.
