Internationals target 4x4s
Statistics released by police in April showed that an off-road vehicle crimewave had hit the UK – and that at least 120 classic Land Rovers had been stolen that year.
A spate of high-profile Land Rover thefts have occurred since then. In one, thieves stripped a police Land Rover outside the police station in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire. They managed to take all five doors.
In April former Stolen Vehicle Squad boss Dr Ken German warned that Land Rovers’ popularity overseas and lack of security made them a thief’s dream.
Now he’s warning readers of a different type of theft. He says: ‘ There’s a worrying trend of parts being stolen from cars and Land Rovers are so easy to steal from.’
