Reliant collection sells for £1254
Fans of the Reliant range picked up a great bargain recently when six different models went under the hammer on an online auction site for a total of £1254.
The cars, part of a private collection owned by Cornwall resident John Holden, were sold on the Catawiki auction site. ‘I couldn’t believe how diverse his collection is,’ says Catawiki’s classic car auctioneer Michael Footitt.
The sale included a 1961 Reliant Regal for £66, a ’67 Rebel for £92; the ’76 Kitten fetched £100, a ’68 Regal went for £300, a ’73 Scimitar £642 and for just £54 you could have taken home a ’78 Kitten.
John’s collection ranges from Trabants, to a huge variety of Rovers. However, he felt the time was right to clear up a bit of space to work on some of his remaining cars – he still has ten other Reliants – hence the no-reserve sale.
John’s big clear out involved cars other than Reliants too. ‘He was a bit surprised at some of the prices, but some fetched more than he thought. His Škoda 1203 went for £1598, for instance and he thought he’d only get £600 for it,’ says Michael Footitt.
Catawiki.com hosts a monthly barnfind sale along with regular singlemarque days, including Ferrari. But more importantly for bargain-hunting Reliant fans, Michael says that John is thinking about selling a few more cars soon.
