The big worry is some­one at­tach­ing nice pan­els to a rot­ted-out base unit, ba­si­cally the car’s skele­ton. As most ven­dors won’t be too keen on your dis­man­tling the car on their drive­way, be care­ful.

Sills are struc­tural but it’s easy to bolt on cov­ers and you also need to check the area un­der the rear seat and the pan­els in­side the rear wings where the rear sus­pen­sion trail­ing arms at­tach.

Cylin­der heads on four-pot en­gines can cor­rode in­ter­nally, water can leak from the side cover plates on the blocks and tim­ing chains can be past their best.
