Corrosion is the chief killer of these cars. Look out for it on the sills, wings, floorpans, outriggers, wheelarches and boot floors – if you find any, it’ll keep you busy for a while.
Engines are long-lived and strong but 60 years on can suffer bearing, crankshaft and other wear. Check it breathes properly, too.
The front suspension needs regular greasing, otherwise it’ll wear rapidly. Give the entire system a good look-over for signs of neglect and make sure the wishbones aren’t corroded.
