OLDSMOBILE 88 ROYALE BROUGHAM DIESEL
This huge saloon shares its bodyshell with the Chevrolet Caprice but GM’s marketing strategy pitched it at more upmarket buyers. Some of those buyers clearly wanted a big V8 with decent economy, as this diesel model (thought to be the only one in the UK) suggests. Cadillac had offered diesels in its range since the late 1970s, so oil-burning cars weren’t entirely new to the public and this V8-engined 88 combines size with fewer visits to the filling station.
It’s MoT’d until October and has a rebuilt gearbox, a new battery and new heater plugs, so it should be on the button.
