Race series’ red tape

Motor Racing Legends (MRL) has announced a new engine certification programme for its historic race series.

The system requires engines to be inspected, measured and sealed to prevent engine power being covertly improved by increasing bore and stroke. Cars whose engines have been inspected and sealed will be recognised within the results.

MRL chairman, Duncan Wiltshire says: ‘This is a major initiative in the battle to control engine over-development in Historic racing. We’ll apply the scheme across our Touring Car/ ‘50s Sports Car series this year.’

Racer Gareth Evans says: ‘This is fair, but the short notice before the start of the season could leave some having to invest in engine rebuilds to conform to the new rules.’
