1963 SUNBEAM RAPIER SERIES IIIA
Few British saloon car entrants have more panache than a Sunbeam Rapier. The pillarless, be-finned coupé was a serious rally and circuit competitor and it’s still very handy.
This 1963 Series IIIa was rebuilt as an historic rally car, coming second in the 2002 Rally of the Tests.
Later acquired by HRDC organiser Julius Thurgood and seeing circuit action it changed hands again and prepared for the 2012 Goodwood revival St Mary’s Trophy. As well as the bodyshell being rebuilt the engine and gearbox received specialist attention.
In the hands of the vendor and co-driver, IndyCar and Le Mans pilot Derek Daly – it was placed an overall 12th. Said to be driving well, it’s temptingly estimated.
