Sevens to Austria
Austin Seven owners are preparing to embark on a 1500-mile journey across Europe to mark the car’s 95th anniversary this summer.
The North Hertfordshire branch of the 750 Motor Club is organising the Eurotour adventure to Austria, which sets off from Calais on 2 June to the Alpine region of Tyrol and on to the city of Salzburg, where the club will celebrate both the car and the region’s association with the film The Sound of Music.
A club spokesman says: ‘Some 45 Austin Sevens from the UK and France, plus two support vehicles, will make the long trip halfway across Europe through France, Germany and Switzerland and on to Austria.
‘There they will attack real mountain-road climbing to show how tough and enduring these little cars are, before tackling the long trek home.’
The club has held European tours every five years since 1992 – the Seven’s 70th anniversary – and on the last tour in 2012 the group of Austins took on the Swiss Alps’ toughest roads en-route to the town of Interlaken.
