‘Modifying is popular’

‘It’s easy to think that all Escort MkIIs are modified, but there’s actually a real following for originality. However, modifying is popular too, and fitting Zetec engines is particularly popular because they’re more reliable, economical and powerful. These are often mated to a five-speed Sierra gearbox. Upgraded disc brakes and suspension are also common. Most buy their parts off the shelf rather than doing anything bespoke – as a result a lot of changes are safe because the bits are tried and tested.’
