1949 BENTLEY MKVI
Here was proof that ‘they’re still out there’, although in this case ‘out there’ meant the Irish Republic. SWVA’s lovely MkVI had history dating back to day one and it had been well maintained down the years, although some might have questioned the modern covers hiding the worn seat facings. Great bodywork – the doors shut beautifully and had no sign of hinge-droop – and the paint was seriously dusty after years in storage, but careful detailing would return this old dowager’s dignity. The pièce-de-résistance was the engine, which ticked over without a murmur. Offered without reserve, it ended up being a very good deal, and showed that the MkVI can still be something of a bargain.
