1939 BENTLEY ‘RUSTY TURNER’ SPECIAL
Good enough to warrant an entry in the first volume of Ray Roberts’ book Bentley Specials and Special
Bentleys, this car, built on an overdrive ‘Derby’ Bentley chassis, was converted in the mid-1960s by Bentley leading light ‘Rusty’ RussTurner. Much of the work was done by former Rolls-Royce/Bentley main dealer apprentice Tony Fabian, including fitting a twin-rotor Wade supercharger. Sold to one-time Aston Martin boss Victor Gauntlett, it was later owned by Sir David Steele and Stanley Mann. Seldom do cars of such provenance come to market, and the estimate makes it potentially superb value.
