Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Living With Classics - JAKE DENNIS

Jake‘s Mini started out as a 1996 Sprite, but it’s changed rather a lot since it was built. He says: ‘It was rotten so had to be totally restored, then I added 12in Minilite wheels, bespoke interior trim and a Momo steering wheel.

‘When the original 1275cc injected engine blew up I swapped it for a 1340cc unit with 1.75in HIF44 carb, Pipercross filter, sports catalytic converter and an LCB manifold. It stops better thanks to drilled and grooved discs with Kevlar pads, while there’s Gaz adjustable suspension and a higher-ratio diff (3.44:1). I just wish I’d fitted a lightened flywheel so the engine was more free-revving; and if I were doing it again, the rebuilt gearbox would have been specified with straight-cut gears.’
