Nick, who worked at Rover Group dur­ing the 1990s and had Mon­te­gos as com­pany cars, chose the ex­tra prac­ti­cal­ity of a hatch­back when he fan­cied rem­i­nisc­ing in 2015. ‘My Mae­stro 2.0 EFi has done 110,000 miles, but it’s been re­ally well looked af­ter. It’s reck­oned to be the only 2.0 EFi left with a work­ing talk­ing dash. It’s just the kind of car I like; one that used to be every­where but which is now al­most ex­tinct. Apart from the odd bit of at­ten­tion to the body and paint the car is com­pletely orig­i­nal; now it gets used oc­ca­sion­ally for shows, in­clud­ing var­i­ous BL and Rover days. It’s great to own and drive. Per­haps the only frus­tra­tion with it is that parts sup­ply can be patchy, but you can usu­ally track things down through the club, which is full of peo­ple who have hoarded parts over the years.’
