Morris Ital – good on a dry day

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - This Week -

Interesting to read the Myth Buster about the Morris Ital ( CCW, 1 March).

My father had one of the early 1971 Marinas, a 1.3SDL. He thoroughly disliked it and sold it after 18 months. Roll forward to 1980 and he tired of waiting for a new Ford Escort and bought an Ital 1.7HL which I subsequently learned to

drive in. It wasn’t a bad car until it rained when the grip from the front wheels became rather tenuous. The paintwork and interior were actually quite good.

I remember the brochure he had from the dealers included a special order 2.0HLS, only available in black. I have never seen or heard of one of these and wonder if this model ever actually existed. Michael Hogg, Essex
