CheCk and Change the Coolant

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Fuzz Townshend’s Top Tips -

Even though your classic hasn’t done any work for a while, the coolant has likely been through some temperature extremes. Coolant maintenance isn’t just about antifreeze content – it’s as important to keep coolant galleries free from rust and sludge. This is especially the case with the higher-performance engines fitted into modern classic cars. There are few classic engines which do not feature unlike metals in direct contact with the coolant and so modern preparations include corrosion inhibitors to prevent electrolytic reactions. As for the antifreezing properties, these are often achieved by alcohol preparations that evaporate, diminishing low-temperature protection.
