‘Adopt a more broad-minded approach’

If you’re looking for a classic and thinking about buying from an auction, you might be worried that are no affordable cars out there. Believe me, there are.

You might not be able to buy exactly the car you’re after, but if you go in with your eyes open and adopt a more broadminded approach, you should find something within your budget that meets your requirements. It’s easy to get sucked into the hype of ‘here’s the car you should be buying’, but an auctioneer friend of mine recently stated the obvious – buy the car you like. It’s as simple as that.

The reason I so often seek out the ‘alternatives’ is because they offer better value for money. And those alternatives mean fellow enthusiasts, or those new to the hobby, won’t feel priced out before they’ve even become an owner. My advice? Have a look on auctioneers’ websites for what’s in their next sale. But have a REALLY good look, even considering cars that you might previously have passed by. There are a great many cars out there and you don’t have to follow the mainstream crowd to find one that appeals to you.
