Lego Speed Champions 1966 Ford GT40 and 2016 Ford GT (75881) £29.99

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - This Week - www.lego.com

It’s wonderful that Lego is positively thriving in our modern, electronic hi-tech world. Classic cars, such as the Mini and VW Beetle, have all appeared in the Lego repertoire and now Ford’s GT40 gets the Danish building block treatment. Belatedly commemorating the 50th anniversary of Ford’s first Le Mans triumph, this new Speed Champions 366-piece set contains a 1966 GT40, its 2016 GT counterpart, two drivers, a race marshall, victory podium, gold trophy and chequered flag. Nothing made from Lego is ever going to be a completely accurate representation of the real thing, but the GT40’s general shape is captured better than the GT (which looks a lot less aerodynamic). The driver’s period racing suit is a nice touch. Our build time was just over two hours and the instructions were easy to follow. It’s a fine way of introducing youngsters to the joys of classic cars (and the need to frequently put them back together) or a surprisingly effective stress reliever for the more mature. And as with any Lego kit, if you get bored with it, just make something else instead! richard Gunn
