It’s easy to forget just how important the mainland European market was for British sports cars in the 1950s and ‘60s, and that love affair with MGs, Triumphs and Jaguars is clearly just as strong today. The ever-popular MGB in particular makes good sense for exactly the same reason they do here – it’s affordable, good to drive and backed by strong spares and club support, the latter two points making ownership easier and more enjoyable. As a result it’s not surprising to see that their popularity with buyers on the continent is pushing up prices – the big question will be whether this has a long-term effect on UK values.
