The eventual decision on whether to exempt classics from annual tests – as is already the case with pre-1960 cars – will impact our hobby for years to come. That’s why it’s so important that the Government comes to a decision that truly reflects the views of classic owners and experts, and not one foisted upon it by an EU that Britain (regardless of how you voted last summer) is now leaving. My view is that all classics – my MGB included – should be given some sort of independent safety check, but that doesn’t have to be the MoT in its current form. Don’t forget that one of the options on the DfT’s consultation was leaving things exactly as they are. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Whitehall’s been in listening mode over the last few months.
