Sir Arnold Clark, the founder of Britain’s largest independent group of car dealerships has died aged 89. Britain’s first billionaire car dealer was born in Glasgow, where he set up his first showroom in 1954 with a Morris Ten-Four he bought for £70. A statement said he passed away peacefully ‘surrounded by his family.’ He amassed a collection of classics, including Ford Model Ts, a Citroën Cloverleaf, and a Rolls-Royce Park Ward Single Tourer. He was knighted by the Queen in 2004 for services to the motor trade, as well as for his charity work in Scotland.
