Re the ‘mys­tery sports car’, I would say it is an EB (Ed­wards Broth­ers) body on most likely a Ford chas­sis. At­tached is a pe­riod ad from Car Me­chan­ics April 1959 and al­though just an il­lus­tra­tion, you can see the frontal treat­ment looks sim­i­lar.

Ap­par­ently the early bod­ies were sold as front and back sec­tions with­out doors to al­low fit­ment to chas­sis of dif­fer­ing wheel­bases and in the pic­ture ac­com­pa­ny­ing Joey’s let­ter you can see the sill be­low the door is a sep­a­rate sec­tion.
