I MODDED MINE
Craig’s Crayford MkV is a wellknown car in club circles as it’s one of just 28 drophead Cortinas made, and the only 1600 with an automatic gearbox. ‘Because of its rarity I didn’t want to change things too much so I’ve made some sympathetic improvements,’ says Craig. ‘It’s got ventilated front discs with braided hoses (the latter really improves the pedal feel), and a four-branch manifold along with a stainless steel exhaust. The engine is now fed by a twin-choke Weber.’
Craig has owned his Crayford for more than 15 years but he’s also owned a Cortina MkIII since 1989 – and it’s fitted with a 5.0-litre Mustang V8, a five-speed manual transmission and a raft of other mods so it can handle the power.
