HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD IT?

I recently bought the car via eBay, unseen and from North Scotland – I didn’t actually know what would appear on the transporter! Luckily, the more I look at it, the better it is. At the recent Practical Classics Restoration Show it got loads of attention and people really couldn’t believe the condition. Pretty much everyone had forgotten the Tempra existed. It turns out that there are only two Tempra 1.8SXs left here, and this is the only one on the road, and certainly the only one from 1990. Could it be the oldest Tempra left in the UK? I’d love to know.

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

It’s a launch month car, and very likely a dealer demonstrator, due to the spec – it’s got electric windows and sunroof, electric and heated mirrors, rear sun blinds, automatic heating system and fully automatic heated driver’s seat. And yes, I know what you’re thinking, but it all works. It’s in amazing unmolested condition, with only 56,000 miles. The first owner stopped driving, and the car was stored for years. It had its first electronic MoT last September, so it must have been off the road for at least ten years.

WHAT’S LEFT TO DO ON IT?

Nothing now. The interior is pretty much mint – even the digital dash works perfectly – and it drives brilliantly. It’s completely standard. It’s had new Yokohama tyres all round and the tracking done. That was £350 worth, but boy did it transform the handling.
