Oc­ca­sion­ally – very oc­ca­sion­ally – you slip into a car and it em­braces you like an old friend; you’ve found ‘the one’. That hap­pened to me with the 308 GTS. Right from the off, I was able to drive it quickly. It had the han­dling of the car I’d al­ways imag­ined was out there wait­ing for me. A mid-mounted V8 has the po­ten­tial to make a car feel a bit tricky, but the 308 is so com­mu­nica­tive and there’s some­thing deeply re­as­sur­ing in the way it talks you through ev­ery bend ridge and dip, al­ways feel­ing to­tally planted and whis­per­ing that you can push a lit­tle harder if you re­ally want to.
