Alpine A110 1600S

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Drive-it Day Special The 50 Greatest Drives - richard Heseltine

Few cars command your attention quite like the Alpeen A110 in any of its guises. Excuse my enthusiasm, it’s just that the car is that good. Launched at the 1962 Paris Motor Show, and entering production the following year, it was an instant hit and remained on sale until July 1977. Naturally, you’re all too aware of the 60 per cent rear weight bias, and stories of tricky on-thelimit handling are legion, but the wide rubber and plenty of negative camber ensure that it feels perfectly stable. Cornering speeds are colossal, too. You’re constantly called upon to make tiny corrections, but the-rack-and-pinion set up is a delight.
