We looked at Veloce’s British Lorries of the 1960s in last week’s issue – now we’ve ventured further back in time for the Those were the days… series book on the UK heavy

haulers of the previous decade. If you thought that the cars of this time were fascinating, wait until you see the trucks. This was an era in which prewar stuff mixed it with more modern designs, and ex-military leviathans found their way into civilian hands. There were even Sentinel steam lorries still in everyday service. This is more a picture book than a truly educational read, with much of the information presented as extended photo captions. And, having been first published in 2009 – and now reissued – its style and layout is a little on the dated side. But it’s just shy of 100 pages, with some fantastic historical illustrations and shots of preserved survivors.
