5 WAYS TO MAKE IT BETTER

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Buying & Selling -

TUNING UP 1

Because these cars use the same engine as the Mini, anything you can do to pep up a Mini you can also do to an ADO16. That means a wealth of options such as better cylinder heads from later cars.

SOURCE AN EXHAUST 2

Fitting a stainless steel exhaust is an obvious upgrade, but it’s best to opt for a GT twin-box system.

UPRATE THE 3

CARBURETTOR

Most of these cars came factoryfitted with a single carburettor but fitting twin SUs will improve both power and economy. Needle changes can also pay dividends.

GREEN SCREEN 4

It’s well worth swapping the original toughened windscreen for a laminated item on safety grounds, but it’s costly – expect to pay around £475 for one.

TRIM TIME 5

Some owners of Austin and Morris models fit the posher trim from the Vanden Plas or GT – the trick is in sourcing the parts in the first place.
