The en­gine bay will ac­com­mo­date pretty much any lump you want, but your best bet is to stick with a Rover V8 in ei­ther 3.9, 4.2, 4.5 or 4.8-litre forms. The 4.5-litre unit gives am­ple power and torque, plus rea­son­able econ­omy. Bet­ter still, it’s pretty re­li­able, too.
