A Daim­ler fit for a king

A 1946 Daim­ler DB 18 used by King Ge­orge VI on a tour of South Africa is com­ing up for auc­tion at His­torics’ As­cot Race­course sale on 20 May with no re­serve.

The six-cylin­der saloon made a grand en­trance, ar­riv­ing in Cape Town on the bat­tle­ship HMS Van­guard on 17 Fe­bru­ary, 1946.

It re­mained in South Africa for most of its life be­fore be­ing sold at a UK auc­tion in 2009. It has been in stor­age for the last eight years.
