A Daimler fit for a king
A 1946 Daimler DB 18 used by King George VI on a tour of South Africa is coming up for auction at Historics’ Ascot Racecourse sale on 20 May with no reserve.
The six-cylinder saloon made a grand entrance, arriving in Cape Town on the battleship HMS Vanguard on 17 February, 1946.
It remained in South Africa for most of its life before being sold at a UK auction in 2009. It has been in storage for the last eight years.
Royal Daimler spent years in South Africa.
