5 ways to make it better

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Buying & Selling -

1 FIT SOME CARPETS

Mini commercials didn’t come with carpets; they got rubber mats instead. Fitting a set of carpets really lifts the cabin though, and helps a little with soundproofing.

2 UPRATE THE BRAKES

With drum brakes all round there’s room for improvement when it comes to stopping power. There are even rear disc conversion kits, although you’ll probably find that front discs are all that’s needed.

3 MAKE IT RUN BETTER

One of the first things that many Mini owners do is to swap the original points and condenser for an electronic set-up, for better starting and more consistent running of the engine.

4 UP THE POWER

There are lots of options here; supercharging, turbocharging, a standard (or modded) 1275cc unit, plus all the traditional tuning routes available to Mini owners.

5 ADD MORE CARBS

Stick with carburettors and you can fit an SU H4 or HS4, but you’re better off moving to twin SUs for more consistent fuelling across the cylinders.
