Ask for receipts. Many autojumblers only give receipts when prompted.

Safely store receipts in a place where you won’t lose them.

Photograph or photocopy receipts on for especially important or expensive parts.

Photograph everything. No part is too small and it helps build up your case for the insurance company.

Write down an inventory – either handwritten or preferably as a computer document – and include images where possible.

Date stamp photographs to prove it ties in with your policy dates. Most digital cameras have this function built in. Photographs taken with mobile phones may differ, but the function can be turned on.

Photograph spares with the car to which they belong prominent in the background.

Photograph the spares where they are kept.

Keep these files in more than one place. For example, on your computer, as well as a separate hard drive.
