The Mille Miglia Bug

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - This Week -

A British-prepared Volkswagen Beetle will battle alongside Mercedes-Benz 300 SLs, BMW 328s, and Lancia Aurelias during this year’s Mille Miglia.

Hampshire-based Just Kampers will be entering a 1956 Volkswagen Beetle in to the infamous event. The team hopes that the VW, dubbed Jack, will be a giant-slayer that can stand up to the more powerful and expensive motors.

Father and son team Mark and Josh Reynolds will be the driver and codriver respectively. Mark founded Just Kampers in 1989, and Josh works with Just Kampers as a copy writer.

The team’s support crew will cross the continent in a Volkswagen T6 Transporter, towing a trailer and performing maintenance and repairs on the Beetle whenever and wherever they’re needed.

Josh Reynolds says: ‘We’ve been dreaming of taking part in the race for years, and now it’s finally happening. But we’re under no illusions about how tough it will be. We plan on spending every possible minute between now and the start of the rally practising every aspect of the race, getting together every possible spare part from the shelves at JK, plus tools and any pieces of equipment we may need and, of course, brushing up on our Italian!’
