1984-89 FIESTA XR2 MkII
The first-series XR2 packed only 84bhp when it arrived back in 1981. The MkII, by contrast, was equipped with a new 1.6-litre CVH four-banger, which resulted in a useful hike in power to 96bhp. It may not have been as quick as a Volkswagen Golf GTI MkII, but it wasn’t far short. It was also much cheaper. The MkII also looked the part thanks to its chunky wheelarch extensions, auxiliary front fog lights and red bumper stripes.
