Check underneath – even soundlooking underseal may have been breached, harbouring moisture and – ultimately – terminal floor rot. Pay special attention to the driver’s side footwell where the throttle pedal bolts to the floor; repairs here can cost anything from £200-1000 depending on how bad things are. Bulkhead repairs are expensive, and problems are hard to spot from within the engine bay, so remove the under-dash panels and front carpets and look up behind the dashboard. Lastly, check the state of the rear chassis rails.
