McRae star tribute
Thirteen World Rally Champions will mark the 10th anniversary of Colin McRae’s death.
Legends from every era of the WRC era will join together to remember McRae – who died in 2007 aged 39 – at historic rally event Rallylegend in San Marino. Each champion will be reunited with a car identical car to the one in which they won their title.
Drivers will include Walter Röhl, Juha Kankkunen, and Miki Biasion.
Planning for the event began three years ago when organisers contacted Luis Moya to help them put together a star-studded event.
Moya says: ‘I immediately activated the World Rally Club, where I have many friends, and the acceptance of the champions I contacted was immediate and warm. It will be a unique event.’
Vito Piarulli, Rallylegend general manager, says: ‘We wanted to give Colin a big tribute. When we had the same idea as Moya, almost at the same time we liked it right away.’
Rallylegend will remember Colin McRae on its classic special stage on 22 October. There will be a parade of all the cars driven by the Scottish champion in the various World Rally Championships. The parade will be opened by Colin’s brother – and fellow rally driver – Alister McRae, with Derek Ringer as co-driver.
