A Discovery tows a four-carriage train at its UK launch in Plymouth, showing off the new 200Tdi engine.
1990
Five-door bodyshell introduced.
1994
The mid-term refresh brings a handsome facelift and drivetrain updates. The 3.5 V8 is replaced with a 3.9-litre version, and the 200Tdi engine is replaced by the smoother 300Tdi. Power output is unchanged, though some diehards find the earlier diesel slightly more efficient and longlived.
1998
Discovery 2 is launched. Hundreds of improvements are made, and a new five-cylinder diesel (Td5) is fitted, though the essential design and layout are retained.
