Dawes will be going for Guinness World Record glory by attempting the world’s fastest quarter-mile caravan tow at the Classic Ford Show at Santa Pod, Bedfordshire, this Sunday (4 June), hopefully driving his turbocharged Escort MkII.

However, the Escort’s head gasket failed during practice runs. Dawes says: ‘I’m currently pricing up replacement head gaskets and timescales to see if I can repair it in time.’

The show will also play host to a Face Off involving the UK’s best Ford-based dragsters. Split over sessions in the morning and afternoon, drivers will be invited to set their fastest time, after which the two fastest cars will go head-to-head, with the winner being crowned the 2017 Face Off Champion.

There will also be a Ford-only Run What Ya Brung on the drag strip, open to show visitors and their cars.
