No, not the glitzy remake released in 2000 starring Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie – this is the full-fat original, brimming with action and a jaw-dropping 40-minute car chase.

The plotline involves a crooked insurance investigator getting paid to steal 48 desirable cars. Crime, chaos, and chases follow. And that’s pretty much all you need to know. In short, the storyline is fast and actionpacked, and many car chase movies owe their existence to this film.

Now, let’s talk motors. All the cars were given female names, among them there were some super-rare machines, including a bitsa Ford Mustang (Eleanor), a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow (Terri) and a De Tomaso Mangusta (Marilyn). A lot has to be said for the director, writer, and producer too. Henry Blight Halicki starred in the film, bankrolled it, performed some of the stunts, and unfortunately died while filming a sequel. Murray Scullion
