White Gold

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - This Week -

Wednesday 7 June @10pm, BBC 2

Comedy series White Gold is set in 1983 in Essex and follows three double-glazing salesmen, led by charmer Vincent Swan (Ed Westwick). It mainly involves the three of them ripping off elderly people, but the cars they use are spot on. In the first episode, yuppy Vincent drives a Lancia Beta Spider in a suitably inconsiderate manner, and in episode two, there’s an argument about company cars. Even the main promotional picture for the programme sees the main three characters standing in front of a Chrysler 2-Litre. This episode (three) sees the taxman paying Vincent a visit – amid plenty of pirate copies of the hit 1980s Spielberg film E.T. If you look back on this era with fond nostalgia for wide boys and their cars, then this is well worth a look. All episodes are available on BBC’s iPlayer, too. Murray scullion
