5 WAYS TO MAKE IT BETTER

Classic Car Weekly (UK) - - Buying & Selling -

1 INTERIOR

Good news – all 600 interiors are interchangeable so you can easily swap cloth trim for leather. Just buy a scrapper for £100-£150 and swap everything over.

2 BRAKES

Because the brakes are mounted behind the hub rather than in front, they’re awkward to replace – although it’s still perfectly possible to do the job on a DIY basis. All 600s got the same solid-disc brakes – which work fine – but if you want even better stopping power, vented discs and harder pads are available.

3 HEAD GASKET

On the 620Ti, the likelihood of discovering a blown head gasket is higher (especially if you’re looking at an early car) because, being turbocharged, the engine is under greater stress. If you’re buying a 620Ti and its head gasket has gone, it’s fixed easily enough. However, we would recommend fitting one of the stronger ‘Klinger’ items fitted to later 620Tis – fortunately it’s a fit-and-forget operation.

4 MUSIC

The original radio sounds absolutely fine but it’s a radio/ cassette, so most owners fit something more modern to have Bluetooth and iPod connectivity.

5 WHEELS

You can fit 800 wheels to a 600 for improved looks, plus you’re changing to bigger rims with lowerprofile tyres. Budget £100-£200.
